An afternoon of photography at Summer Palace

NEXT WORKSHOP
Saturday January 25 2025

Join us for an immersive photography workshop at the Summer Palace in Beijing, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its exquisite landscapes and historical charm. This session will guide you in capturing the essence of this iconic location through your lens.

We’ll begin with a short introduction to the unique photographic opportunities at the Summer Palace. From the intricate details of the Long Corridor to the tranquil views of Kunming Lake, we’ll discuss how to make the most of the natural light, capture standout architectural features, and identify interesting focal points. Guidance will be provided on composition, framing, camera settings, and lens selection to help you bring your creative vision to life.

This workshop is designed to get you hands-on with your camera. You’ll explore a variety of techniques to emphasize the interplay of light and shadow, frame reflections in the lake, and highlight the grandeur of pavilions and pagodas. You’ll be encouraged to experiment with your approach while receiving real-time tips and support. Group photo reviews will allow participants to share their work, exchange ideas, and benefit from constructive feedback.

Throughout the workshop, we’ll introduce fun and inspiring assignments to spark creativity. You might focus on themes such as harmony, symmetry, or contrast, or challenge yourself to capture the palace in a way that feels new and unique. These exercises are designed to help you refine your eye and explore different styles.

We’ll conclude the day with a reflective session to review your work, celebrate your best shots, and discuss what you’ve learned. By the end of the workshop, you’ll leave with a collection of images that showcase your improved skills and your personal perspective on the Summer Palace’s timeless beauty.

This experience offers more than just technical insights—it’s a chance to connect with the art of storytelling through photography, inspired by one of Beijing’s most picturesque landmarks. Whether you’re an experienced photographer or just starting out, this workshop will help you build your confidence and create meaningful images in an unforgettable setting.
